I love baking with the kids – it’s a relaxing, fun pastime that fills the house with warm, sweetness. I love it. We had so much fun during this winter break making sugar cookies, baking pumpkin bread, and dutch apple pies (and Nirzhar taking photos of all the family fun!).
What I don’t love?
Creating my weekly dinner menu and shopping list. Yuck! I dread it, and sometimes our family will find themselves eating pasta with marinara several times in a week not because we love it, but because we have neglected to create the menu. Don’t get me wrong, I love cooking and Nirzhar will often cook curry, but neither of us love the whole menu-planning activity. Plus, being a busy couple (like many of you!) means looking for new recipes to try isn’t at the top of our ‘to-dos’ even though our taste buds crave it. But, I found a solution.
Relish! Saves the Day for Busy Moms!
That’s why I was super excited when I stumbled across a website called Relish! that will send you a list of dinner menu items to choose from each Thursday. All you do is drag-and-drop which menu items look good to you and the site creates the menu and the shopping list – organized by categories like produce, canned goods, meat and so on – even ‘What you may already have’ – all in alphabetical order!
But, I was skeptical. Could it really do that? What are the menu items like? How many choices are there? It wasn’t going to work if my family didn’t like the choices.
Well, I checked out their sample menu not only do they have some great choices, but people that join (like other busy Moms!) add their own favorite recipes and the community vote on which they love.
So, I signed up. It costs, but I figure it’s worth it for the time and energy it saves. Plus, I found a great deal where it’s only $17 for 6 months! (If you want to take advantage of that savings you need to sign-up by January 14th, 2013.) Oh, and their goal is to keep your grocery bill for the week at $100 for a family of 4. Need Gluten Free options? They have another website called GFree!

Took me 5 minutes to choose my menu and print out the shopping list and recipes for the week.
Awe, I love simplicity, even when it comes at a cost!
