Project Playhouse OC: Outrageous Homes for Kids Supports Affordable Housing

I wanted one of those plastic playhouses all my friends had in their backyard, but since I seemed to tower over my friends I outgrew the little thing before I got the chance! If only I had seen the custom-built playhouses that are currently on display at South Coast Plaza maybe then I could have finally gotten my dream playhouse (yeah, I can hear you laughing from here, Mom!).  When we visited, our boys were amazed at the level of detail of these homes. Truly built to last with the same materials that are used in life-sized custom homes, these homes are designed and constructed by builders across Orange County. The playhouses are then auctioned off on October 5th at the Balboa Bay Club, after they’ve been on display for a month. Proceeds go to the HomeAid Orange County, which supports affordable housing for the poor and homeless.

Founded in 1989 by the Orange County chapter of the Building Industry Association of Southern California, HomeAid acts as the housing developer and liaison between service providers, community volunteers, builders and specialty contractors.

With the support of the community, HomeAid has renovated or constructed 49 housing developments in Orange County providing refuge for homeless men, women and children. To learn more about HomeAid Orange County and how you can help provide shelter for homeless families go to www.homeaidoc.org.”

The homes are only on display at South Coast Plaza until the 30th of September, so be sure to stop by during their open hours of 12 noon until 4pm on weekends. To learn more, please visit www.projectplayhouse.org
