Photographer’s Dream: Casa Romantica

Our eldest son recently was awarded the violist seat with the Bellagio Youth Strings Orchestra – a middle-school aged orchestra in Orange County. We went to his first two rehearsals recently, where it was temporary housed at the Casa Romantica – a beautiful cultural center in San Clemente.

When Nirzhar and I walked in, it took our breath away. The space is gorgeous! Overlooking the San Clemente Pier and beach, beautiful California gardens and fountains, and a Spanish style Adobe home, with hardwood floors and ceilings. The kids were in one part of the home and practiced, filling the space with the sounds of strings, mingling with the quiet hush of the waves just below. iPhones could not do this beauty justice, though we did try in vain. To say the least, Nirzhar came prepared to photograph the space the second time we were there – see the images below (bonus point if you can spot me)! There’s some events that happen throughout the year, and I’m looking forward to when we can come back when the sun is shining and we can take in the gardens as well.

Some history of the Casa Romantica are below the photos.

A Little History on The Casa Romantica in San Clemente CA

The Casa Romantica Cultrural Center and Gardens was built in 1927 as a private home by Ole Hanson as an expression of his vision of the ‘California Dream’. Hanson was the co-founder of San Clemente, one of the first ‘planned cities’ in California. San Clemente was to become the ultimate “Spanish Village by the Sea”.

Over the next few decades the home was bought and sold to a variety of California’s elite society, until the house was bought in 1960 by George and Louise Welsh, who operated as a senior citizens’ home until 1984. From 1984 to 2000 the Casa Romantica was leased for private and business events. The San Clemente Redevelopment Agency purchased the property from the Welsh Family Partnership in 1989, and the home was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places since 1991.

We’ve recently had several in-home photoshoots around Orange County CA and our clients have really loved the results. The comfort of home, but ‘styled’ for the photoshoot. If you have a light and bright home, and would love to have some favorite memories captured for wall portraits, then please give Rachel a call: (949) 427-5171 or email.
